Rhoda Morgan is an underground R&B artist as well as a writer and producer for many major label artists. Rhoda grew up in North London attending the Sylvia Young Theatre School and writing her first hit at the age of twelve. A demo tape entitled “On the Air” followed at aged 14 and was released inauspiciously through local record stores.
In 2001 Rhoda was featured on Simon Cowell’s “Pop Idol” before it hit the States as “American Idol.” Although she gained little success on the show, it did lead to a voice testing with music executives at Universal Island Records. But Rhoda was unable to secure a recording deal. Feeling discouraged and her motivation foundering, she packed her bags and in 2003 she arrived in New York City. It wasn’t long before she emerged as a well-respected writer and producer. She had her first successes performing in the 9/11 memorial concert and co-writing and producing for demo-deal artists on Virgin Urban. She also had a cameo role in the movie "This thing called Love" filmed in Brooklyn, NY.
What followed was the release of her first album “From Brixton to Brooklyn” in 2006. In an interview with MC Magazine Rhoda says “I called my album “From Brixton to Brooklyn” to show the influence of music, artists and styles from both sides of the Atlantic, from British garage and reggae beats to Latin-infused Brooklyn hip-hop” She also added that it was a ‘celebration of her journey’ from one country to another. The album featured collaborations with East Coast Rappers Stelo, Seldom Seen, Jersey and reggae artist Loose and was recorded in Bedstuy, Brooklyn.
“He Say She Say” The first single on the album received airplay on college radio throughout the U.S. Rhoda performed and gave interviews on U.S. T.V. shows “Beyond Music”, “The Block Party”, “Real Talk” and “Y Network T.V.”, Radio Shows “Top10 WBMB countdown”, “What’s Going On”, “Best of Urban” as well as making numerous live performances across the East Coast. The album track "No Cure For Love" was featured on Clearstream Records 2006 Christmas compilation and in February 2007 Rhoda signed a licensing deal with VH1/MTV Networks for the album "From Brixton to Brooklyn." Songs from the album were featured in "The Area 67 Undiscovered Artists Podcast." Rhoda was also a featured artist for the Institute of Independent Music. In 2006, the song "Rescue Me" was donated to the Music for Troops Campaign.
In 2007, Rhoda held an active role in many major-label projects writing and placing tracks with commercial artists. She was also selected as a featured artist on MTV u. On 1/15/09 it was announced that Rhoda will be releasing her second album "Independence Day" in the late spring of 2009. In an upcoming interview with Studio magazine Rhoda describes it as a “revolutionary record” featuring “big songs with big melodies.” She is also continuing to write hits for many top-40 artists.
In her free time Rhoda enjoys running the Williamsburg bridge, bike riding down the Hudson, dancing salsa & merengue and volunteering her time to community projects. Rhoda will also commence a Juris Doctor Law program specializing in family law. Rhoda is a proud supporter of Safe Horizon.
